WHY IS THE BIBLE THE MOST CREDIBLE BOOK IN HUMAN HISTORY?

HISTORY ARCHAEOLOGY QURAN HINDU VEDAS & SCIENCE CONFIRM ALL BIBLICAL TRUTHS

PROOF THAT JESUS IS ALIVE!

The old testament which constitutes Judaism, was given to the Jews, the descendants of Isaac, the brother of Ishmael, the Father of Muslims. The Old Testament is a shadow of Jesus Christ. Now that the real person Jesus has appeared, we focus on Him who has given us the New Testament which is broader, more focused and amplifies the Old Testament in a more stricter, holier, and definitive way, thereby transforming us into the image of Christ. Jesus Christ is Alive!

We believe the Bible from cover to cover and the Old Testament law is a shadow of the New Testament. You don't follow the shadow but you follow the person Jesus. God is creator and He did not need a wife for Jesus to be born in this world as Jesus was conceived of the Holy Spirit. What Jehovah God did by bringing Jesus into this world is not possible for Allah or other Gods who do not exist.

The proof that a person exists is the presence of relationships. I know my father is alive because I call and talk to him. We have an ongoing Father-child relationship with God, a brotherly relationship with Jesus Christ who is also now the heavenly Bridegroom of the church. Only in Christianity are all these 3 relationships evident thereby proving the eternal existence of the One true God Jehovah our Father and Jesus our Heavenly Bridegroom and the Holy Spirit our Comforter and friend. You cannot call Allah Buddha or Brahma Father because they do not exist. Furthermore, Muhammad preached Allah like those who preached other gods and are all dead! Jesus preached Jehovah God and is Alive! Historical facts don't need to be debated. They need to be acknowledged!

BIBLE RECORDS PUBLIC HISTORICAL EVENTS

1. God came down on Mount Sinai openly and publicly in front of over 1-million people and wrote the ten commandments.

2.     Nobody could capture Jesus until He said take me, and nobody could kill Jesus until He said Father take my Spirit.  The centurion who crucified Jesus said truly this was the Son of God.  Stop arguing, ask the centurion why?!

3.     Jesus appeared to more than 500 people alive in the flesh after His resurrection.

4.     Jesus ascended up to heaven from the mount in front of 70 people.

5.     Millions from nations worldwide were present when the Holy Spirit  Comforter promised by Jesus came down on 120 people in fiery fire -tongues of fire.

6.     In all these evidences people saw and heard and documented it.

TIMING OF ISLAM VS. AUTHENTICATED BIBLICAL HISTORY

ISLAM CAME NEARLY 3,000 YEARS AFTER THE CREATION OF BIBLICAL

Islam came 650 years after Jesus came.  Islam was created by 1 man in private.  The Bible was written by over 1,000,000 people who witnessed God Jehovah not Allah descend publicly on Mount Sinai in Arabia.  The Biblical chapters are 3,500 years old and were written by 40 authors. Bible provides millions of direct witnesses of God in public.  Islam provides 1 in private.  The Bible take us back to sequential history starting from 6,000 years back when man was created. Each book in the Bible is historical and tied to a historical date.  Therefore the Bible is the oldest book in history and most credible because the Bible is even witnessed in Qur'an as Jesus being the only one who did not sin and even Qur'an says Jesus is the Word of God Spirit of God and Messiah. THE spirit that gave the Qur'an to Muhammed could not fail to acknowledge that Jesus is Almighty God! Therefore Jesus rose again but Muhammad didn't!  I have more faith in an Author Jesus Christ who rose again from the dead along with Elijah and Enoch who went to heaven alive, rather than one who still lies dead in a cold monument.

Jesus Christ is the Son of God and Son of Man:

Son of man was an addition to His Deity, not a subtraction!

Muslims keep asking how can man become God?

Actually God became man, God - man in Jesus Christ!

Jesus is Son of God in relation to God the Father and God in relation to His creation.  For example, Obama is president of the US and is also his father's son.  If a man can do it why not God? R U saying God is inferior to man? Think about your weak logic! Does that answer your question?

God The Creator (Owner) came as man so He can teach us how to live and use the Owner's Manual (Holy Bible).

Yes we are a son (child) of God, because we believed in Christ Jesus, who is The Son of God. Jesus The Son of God, elevated us the sons of men, by lowering Himself to our level, to add the Son of Man to His Deity.  With God all things are possible.  He can become man if He so desires, and man does not need to understand how, because that is the Creator's prerogative! Jesus Christ is The Son of God and Son of Man, God Almighty, Revelation 1:8.

We have been called by God to the witness stand because you have failed to understand Him from His creation and His Holy Bible that says if u look on a woman to lust after her you have already committed adultery in your heart.  Muslim and non muslim brothers stop blaming women your sisters and take responsibility. Covering women completely with a cloth is not the solution!  Be cleansed by the blood of Jesus!

We cannot understand 100%, how a seed one day becomes a tree, and bears and multiplies into thousands of apples.  There's the refutal of Newtons law that says matter cannot be created!  We also understand less than 1% of the human body.  How then can we wait to understand God and then believe.  Eat the apple, enjoy it's delicious taste.  Use your amazing body for good things. Enjoy God's presence.  It will take eternity to understand God. Believe, enjoy His company.  He is our Father! Walk with Him daily, taste and see that the Lord is good, blessed is the man that trusts in Him! Ps 34.

There is no other book in any of the worlds religions (Vedas, Bhagavad-Gita, Koran, Book of Mormon, etc.) that contains scientific truth. In fact, they contain statements that are clearly unscientific. Hank Hanegraaff said, "Faith in Christ is not some blind leap into a dark chasm, but a faith based on established evidence."

The Bible is supernatural in origin. Therefore take heed to its promise of Heaven and warning of Hell. Lets see if you qualify to enter Heaven: Have you ever lied (even once - fibs, white lies, etc.)? Ever stolen (anything - the value is irrelevant)? Jesus said, "Whoever looks upon a woman to lust after her, has committed adultery already with her in his heart." Have you ever looked with lust? If you have said "Yes" to these three questions, by your own admission, you are a lying, thieving, adulterer at heart; and weve only looked at three of the Ten Commandments. Thats how God sees you. Nothing is hid from His holy eyes. Will you be innocent or guilty on the Day of Judgment? Listen to your conscience. You know that you will be guilty, and therefore end up in Hell. Thats not Gods will. He provided a way for you to be forgiven. He sent His Son to take your punishment: "God commended His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." He was bruised for our iniquities. Jesus then rose from the dead and defeated death: "The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Pray something like this: "Dear God, I repent of all of my sins (name them). This day I put my trust in Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. Please forgive me and grant me your gift of everlasting life. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen." Then read the Bible daily and obey what you read (see John 14:21). God will never let you down.

SCIENTIFIC ACCURACY

Is the bible true? Why would a Christian like me believe in my religious book called the bible, when many try to turn the mind of man away from religious faith reasoning that religion is an intoxicating drink and vehemently oppose religious books which explain the basic principles and beliefs of religion? It appears important to me to explain why I like to read it. It is my desire to explain the reasons for my belief and the beliefs of godly people like me, with the help of science such as Philosophy, Mathematics, Science etc. Although it is our wish to explain all details, we try to give some important reasons alone in a lucid and simple manner as it would be difficult for many readers to understand complex scientific principles.

First of all, in the Bible, there is nothing contrary to science. Therefore I believe the Bible. Some people who don't know the Bible argue that some of the events mentioned in the Bible are not in agreement with scientific knowledge in any way. Let us analyze some of them.

You would have already known from earlier articles that the details regarding creation as written in the first book, Genesis, are not in any way contrary to our belief or general knowledge. Therefore it is meaningless to argue that it is against scientific proposition.

Secondly, an event which is greatly debated is the great deluge recorded to have occurred in Noah's time. Did it really happen? We give below the summary of an article which appeared in an Indian weekly named, "Sunday Standard" on this topic: On 5th of July 1955, Fernand Navarra, a French man and his son Raphael went to explore the mount Ararat. In the end, about 3000 feet from its peak they located Noah's ark. In their assessment, the remains of the ark was about 500 feet length and was seen damaged by the weight of the iceberg. They cut out and brought three pieces of wood weighing about 50 pounds from the ark.

After analyzing the samples in many reputed chemical laboratories, they came to the conclusion that these wooden pieces were part of a type of oak tree found in the Mediterranean region almost 5000 years ago. When scientists had clarified this so clearly, why should we continue to harbor doubts about this?

Still, let us also consider the opinions of geologists on destruction caused by this great flood: According to the theory of evolution, during any specific period only one kind of organism could live. However in the rocks underneath the earth several layers and piles upon piles of fossilized skeletons of organisms were found, which should have lived at different points of time according to the evolutionary theory. Moreover fossilized remains of different sea creatures were found buried in high places. Also skeletons of various types of organisms are found strewn across a vast area covering hundreds of acres in separate collections. Therefore it could reasonably be assumed that an unexpected deluge caused widespread destruction among various creatures living in groups and buried the carcasses here and there. Besides in various parts of the world there were signs of water having reached great heights. Moreover after careful analysis of deposits found at the top of some very tall mountains, scientists admit that those mountains were once submerged in water. Therefore the deluge of Noah's time, as mentioned in the Bible, is not contrary to science.

Brother, why should you head towards destruction, ignoring the warning sound of God and refuse the salvation kept ready for you like the people who refused to heed the crying appeal of good old grandpa Noah and perished ignoring the ark prepared for them?

Thirdly, the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah is an event which deserves to be investigated. We read in the Bible that these cities were destroyed by fire and brimstone falling from heaven. How could this be true? What do geologists have to say on this? The cities of Sodom and Gomorrah were located in the valley of river Jordan. Beneath the landscape of these cities, a very wide oil well was found. Due to some incident such as an earthquake, this part of the earth sank and strained the soft rock underneath. Because of the pressure exerted by the sunken earth, from there, salt, sulfur and oil could have come out through some weak faults. These elements which gushed out with immense force rose to great heights and fell over a wide area of land which turned Lot's wife into a pillar of salt. As oil rubbed with air, it caught fire and there was a rain of fire from above. In this way the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah also had been explained beyond doubt.

My friend, the earth where you live will also be consumed by fire. Do you want to live? Find shelter in the rock of Christ.

Fourthly, in the 12th and 13th verses of the tenth chapter of the book of Joshua, we read that Joshua halted the movement of the sun and the moon. Is this feasible? We also see that nothing like that had ever happened either before or after that incident. Therefore we should investigate the natural law by which this kind of unparalleled incident could have taken place. No one can tell with certainty why the earth rotates around its axis. The gravitational force of earth also is an enigma. There is a possibility of lengthening of day like this because of the obstruction to the speed of the earth. The hailstorm which occurred that day was the consequence of changes on the earth caused by the obstruction to it's movement. Isn't it possible that God could have employed some foreign space object as a tool to bring about such condition? Also, is it impossible for God who formed the ordinances of nature to perform an act overriding them?

Long before the discovery of many of the scientific principles in the present times, they were mentioned in the Bible. This is another reason why I believe the Bible. When Galileo Galilei (1564-1642) pointed to people that earth was round, without support and revolved around its own axis, the then leaders of the Roman church, branded him a heretic and ostracized him. Romans are not the only Christians and it can not be claimed that they know the Bible. But what does our scripture say?

Isaiah wrote "He that sitteth upon the circle of the earth" (Isa. 40:22) and in Job 26:7, we read, "He hangeth the earth upon nothing". Weren't these books written many years before Galileo? An astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus (1473-1543) clarified that it was not the sun which revolved around the earth but the earth which revolves around the stationary sun.

For the people living at that time, what was told by David to his people as mentioned in Psalms 19, that the sun rising at one end of the heavens and making its circuit to the other end, might have appeared senseless. However we know today that although the sun does not revolve around the earth, it does move on its predestined path patiently. Medical scientists tried very hard to find answer to the question, "What is life and on what does it depend?" Their final conclusion is that life is in the blood. But we read the same truth in the book of Leviticus again and again. The Bible points out in Lev. 17:11 that "the life of the flesh is in the blood".

Moreover scientists have discovered an upper atmospheric layer called Kennelly-Heaviside layer (ionosphere) over the earth which looks like glass and protects the humans from harmful rays emanating from the sun, which also reflects electromagnetic waves (radio waves) back to the earth. What does the Bible have to say on this? Many centuries before this was discovered, it was written in Job 37:18 that "He spread out the skies strong as a cast metal mirror".

These days, man has discovered that apart from stars like sun, there are planets other than the earth. Since these planets look like the world where we live, scientists even venture to say that they can be inhabited by human beings. It has been discovered that there are many such worlds. What does the Bible have to say on this? In Heb. 1:2, we read, "through whom also He made the worlds" and in Heb.11:3, we read, "By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God".

The most surprising thing of all is the mention of the land of India in Esther 1:1, many years before it was discovered by westerners. Since so many things have been written in the Bible, long before they were discovered by scientists and intellectuals, can we not believe that this was written by God Himself through His Spirit?.

PROPHETIC ACCURACY

The remarkable evidence of fulfilled prophecyis just one case in point. Hundreds of Bible prophecies have been fulfilled, specifically and meticulously, often long after the prophetic writer had passed away.

For example, Daniel the prophet predicted in about 538 BC (Daniel 9:24-27) that Christ would come as Israel's promised Savior and Prince 483 years after the Persian emperor would give the Jews authority to rebuild Jerusalem, which was then in ruins. This was clearly and definitely fulfilled, hundreds of years later.

There are extensive prophecies dealing with individual nations and cities and with the course of history in general, all of which have been literally fulfilled. More than 300prophecies were fulfilled by Christ Himself at His first coming. Other prophecies deal with the spread of Christianity, as well as various false religions, and many other subjects.

There is no other book, ancient or modern, like this. The vague, and usually erroneous, prophecies of people like Jeanne Dixon,Nostradamus, Edgar Cayce, and others like them are not in the same category at all, and neither are other religious books such as theKoran, the Confucian Analects, and similar religious writings. Only the Bible manifests this remarkable prophetic evidence, and it does so on such a tremendous scale as to render completely absurd any explanation other than divine revelation.

HISTORICAL ACCURACY

Historical accuracy of the Scriptures is likewise in a class by itself, far superior to the written records of Egypt, Assyria, and other early nations.

Archeological confirmations of the Biblical record have been almost innumerable in the last century. Dr. Nelson Glueck, probably the greatest modern authority on Israeli archeology, has said:

"No archeological discovery has ever controverted a Biblical reference. Scores of archeological findings have been made which confirm in clear outline or in exact detail historical statements in the Bible. And, by the same token, proper evaluation of Biblical descriptions has often led to amazing discoveries."

UNIQUE STRUCTURE

The remarkable structure of the Bible should also be stressed. Although it is a collection of 66 books, written by 40 or more different men over a period of 2,000 years, it is clearly one Book, with perfect unity and consistency throughout.

The individual writers, at the time of writing, had no idea that their message was eventually to be incorporated into such a Book, but each nevertheless fits perfectly into place and serves its own unique purpose as a component of the whole. Anyone who diligently studies the Bible will continually find remarkable structural and mathematical patterns woven throughout its fabric, with an intricacy and symmetry incapable of explanation by chance or collusion.

The one consistent theme of the Bible, developing in grandeur from Genesis to Revelation, is God's great work in the creationand redemption of all things, through His only Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.

BIBLE'S UNIQUE EFFECT

The Bible is unique also in terms of its effect on individual men and on the history of nations. It is the all-time best seller, appealing both to hearts and minds, beloved by at least some in every race or nation or tribe to which it has gone, rich or poor, scholar or simple, king or commoner, men of literally every background and walk of life. No other book has ever held such universal appeal nor produced such lasting effects.

One final evidence that the Bible is true is found in the testimony of those who have believed it. Multitudes of people, past and present, have found from personal experience that its promises are true, its counsel is sound, its commands and restrictions are wise, and its wonderful message of salvation meets every need for both time and eternity.

BIBLE SAYS GOD IS OUR FATHER

How wonderful to have a son<->Father relationship with God.  This truly indicates God (Jehovah) is our true creator for He made us in His image and He is our Loving Father.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

Jesus taught us to pray:

M't:6:9: After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

Joh:20:17: Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.

In Islam the human relationship with God is that of a slave and his master!  "This is the reason Muhammad in fear attempted suicide as the spirit was speaking to him".  Read the article in the link below "no father" for documentation.

TRINITY AND OUR TRIUNE GOD

1 John 5: 7, 8

For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one. [8] And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.

1 John 2: 22, 23

Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son. [23] Whosoever denieth the Son, the same hath not the Father: (but) he that acknowledgeth the Son hath the Father also.

When Jesus was baptized there was a voice from the Father and the Holy Spirit came as a dove and rested on Jesus. The word trinity is an offshoot of the word three in 1 John 5:7 (Authorized King James Version) and signifies unity in the triune Godhead:

Mathew 3:16, 17 1 John 5:7

These verses will definitely clear your confusion unless you have decided to close your eyes and ears Isaiah 6:9,10

Your question, "where is the scriptures that there are three persons in the Godhead?" and a long list of Bible passages in support of the Deity of Jesus Christ stands at halfway mark. Yes! without any doubt it is an all-important and universal truth that Jesus Christ is the One and Only True God. In addition to this there remains some other important teachings, which demands our attention for a thorough understanding of the Biblical doctrine of God. It is quite a blunder to deny a Biblical truth if it is misunderstood or hard to believe. One cannot simply remain ignorant of basic Bible teachings without falling into gross errors.

So it is far better for you to know the truth if you read the Bible with an open heart without any prejudiced mind. The lopsided views held by the Only Jesus group and Jehovah Witnesses have done great harm to the Scriptures and Christianity. It is not a question of holding a Unitarian, Binarian, or Trinitarian views in a way of dogmatic enthusiasm. To accept and believing the truth, comprises of submitting ourselves to the exclusive authority of the Scripture which calls us to obey God and His revelations. If you are one among those groups to which I have already mentioned then I am very sorry to pull you any further except in showing you the TRUTH.

The Scriptures clearly teach that there exists three distinct persons in the Godhead. Many are perplexed to understand the doctrine of Trinity; a profound and cardinal truth of the Bible. It is the foundation upon which our Christian faith, salvation, regeneration, sanctification, and glorification rests. Even though the term 'Trinity' is not found in the Bible, God has revealed Himself subsisting in three persons as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. They are not three separate 'gods' but One God. Our credo of faith declares: "Hear, O Israel; The LORD our God is one LORD. Dt. 6:4.

There is no polytheistic pagan influence on the unity and oneness of God as often blamed by some anti-Trinitarian groups. We should be very careful to avoid any concept that directly contradicts the scriptures. The revelation of God was in progress in the OT. It finally reached its fullness in the NT at the coming of Jesus Christ. More than any sacred writers of the Bible, our Lord Jesus himself gave hitherto unrevealed things about God Jn. 1:18. So if we understand His teachings and apostolic writings the perfect picture of God will be focused. The Bible says that God sent His Son to redeem the world. Jn. 3:16. It is the 2nd person of the Trinity who was incarnated in human flesh. When Jesus was 12 years old he was well aware of his heavenly God the Father Lk 2:49. In his intimate discourse with his disciples Jesus repeatedly says about his mission assigned to him by God. He vividly speaks about his special relationship with God the Father. Furthermore He also says about another Person called the Holy Spirit, a Heavenly Comforter who will come after His departure from this world. He speaks about Him in the same way God is called and spoken of Jn. 13-17 Chps. If this is not so, what does it mean when the Scriptures clearly indicates different persons present in the Godhead? Or is it a show of mistaken identities played by God? Either there is a work of disguise or an actual Tri-Personal being called God.

In his gospel prologue John calls Jesus as the eternal Word existing alongside God Jn. 1:1. Here Jesus is called as the Word of God, who is also God as a distinct person in the Godhead. In the same chapter Jesus is said to be the only revealer of God Jn. 1:18; 14:9. We can see Trinity in action at the baptism of Jesus. When Jesus stepped out of the water, the Spirit of God descended on him in the form of a dove and the voice of affirmation from God the Father concerning His Son Jesus Christ was proclaimed from heaven. Mt. 3:16,17; Mk. 1:10,11; Lk. 3:21,22. When Christ was manifested in the flesh he became the perfect mediator between God and fallen mankind. I Tim .2:5. How can it be possible for Jesus to commend His own spirit to Himself while he was hanging on the cross? What did the apostles preached on and after the day of Pentecost? They solemnly testified that God raised Jesus whom the Jews killed.

So from all these passage and many more we can understand that God is not acting from time to time as Jesus or the Holy Spirit. Ample proofs for the Trinity is well attested in the scriptures.

By quoting some verses in defense of the deity of Jesus Christ you have almost missed the actual core points which clearly proves the Trinity. So I want to explain this Biblical truth with the same passages used in your Unitarian view.

Mt. 28:18- ".... All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth" Jesus never said 'I have all authority' even though he possess as such. Here he is authorized by someone other than Him. God the Father has given all authority to Him to judge the universe and exert all power over His creation. Phili. 2:9-11;Jn. 5:22.

Jn. 10:30- "I and My Father are One". Whom did Jesus called His Father? Did he called Himself as His own Father as well as Son?. In a purely metaphysical manner Jesus acknowledges God the Father and Himself as separate persons within the God and goes on to stress they are ONE in 'will' and 'action' from all eternity. The Jews of his generation clearly understood the meaning of His statement and planned to stone and kill Him for blasphemy.

Jn. 14:9- "....He who has seen me has seen the Father...." Who is this Father, Philip likes to see? Apostles knew well about God as the Father to Jesus in a very special way. Christ plainly answers that the one who believes and accepts the Son has the Father also in the same way they are united with Him. "Whoever denies the Son does not have the Father either; he who acknowledges the Son has the Father also". I Jn. 2:23

Mt . 4:4- "....mouth of God" Christ is the 'Logos' of God. He is the collective wisdom, thought and expression of God. Through and by Him the cosmos came into being. Jn. 1:1-3. The world now exists for Him through the Word of His power. Heb. 1:3. Christ is the power and wisdom of God. 1 Cor. 1:24.

Mk. 12:29- "....Hear, O Israel, the LORD our God the LORD one" God is One. There are no other gods besides Him. The great monotheistic code given in Dt. 6:4 is the foremost and central confession of faith. Yet the NT reveals more on the Unity and Plurality of Persons found in the Godhead without any notion of polytheism. "....God is ONE" Gal. 3:20. "....for there is ONE God, and there is no other but He" Mk. 12 :32; "There is ONE God....". 1 Tim. 2:5; Js. 2:19.

Jn. 4:24- "God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit truth" While Jesus was on earth He was not a spirit being. He called people to worship God in a manner worthy and well pleasing to Him. During his earthly life Jesus extensively prayed to His heavenly Father for power and authority to do His perfect will on earth. Read Heb. 5:7. He is the perfect model of our Christian life.

Jn. 20:28- "....My Lord and my God" Jesus Christ is Absolute God and Absolute Man united in One Person with two distinct natures without any conglomeration and confusion in His individual being. Read 1 Tim . 3:16. He receives the worship of Thomas. Elsewhere he has accepted the worship and honor of peoples. Jesus is fully worthy of honor, praise and worship. He is the object of divine worship. Acts. 7:59; Heb. 1:6; Rev. 5:12.

Here I would like to see the Jehovah Witnesses to submit themselves to Christ and worship Him as Lord and God. They are unsaved peoples who desperately need Christ for their redemption. There is no difference between Only Jesus group and Jehovah Witnesses. These two Bible twisting heretical groups have brought much damage on Biblical Christianity. The Only Jesus group deny the distinctive Personal elements of God the Father and the Holy Spirit. For them the 'Father'; 'Son'; 'Holy Spirit' are only 'modes' revealed from time to time for different purpose of time and periods. On the other hand the JW's completely deny the blessed Trinity.

Col. 1:9- "For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily". Read carefully Col.1:19. "For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell". Christ possessed all the divine powers and fullness required for a Deity. "God was IN Christ reconciling the world to Himself". 2 Cor. 5:19

Heb.1:1-3; Col. 1:15-. These passages are strongly in favour of Trinitarian exposition.

You have asked, "Are you complete in Jesus ... or are you searching for another God?" Very strange question. One who has never believed and accepted Jesus Christ as Lord God and Saviour is not at all a Christian. True genuine Christians are worshipping the Triune God who has revealed Himself in redemptive work. Salvation is the work of the Trinity. The different spiritual aspects of salvation in a genuine Christian believer is brought forth by God the Father's predestination; God the Holy Spirit's sanctification, and God the Son's glory. 2 Thess. 2:13,14. Read carefully passages related to this truth. Tit. 3:4-6 and 1 Pt. 1:2. The Body of Christ, the Church is under the supervision and authority of the Triune God which is sharply embedded in Eph. 4:4-6. ".... One Spirit (Holy Spirit, the divine Comforter, 3rd Person of the Trinity).... One Lord (Jesus Christ, 2nd Person of the Trinity), one faith(Christ-centered, genuine, true and apostolic), one baptism(essential part of the Great Commission handed to His apostles) and One God and Father of all(God the Father, 1st Person of the Trinity). We are complete in Jesus Christ as well as in God who is composed of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Without this completeness immature and false Christians are excluded from the kingdom of God and heavenly blessings which comes through Benediction:- "The GRACE OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST, and the LOVE OF GOD, and the COMMUNION OF THE HOLY SPIRIT" be with you all" 2 Cor. 13:14.

You have asked, "does God have three images?". This is an illogical question. It is foolish to seek an answer for something from something that doesn't exist. It is your confused and shattered mind that makes you to ask questions for which you also cannot answer. I cannot take this question raised by a Christian. It may be a ill-formed doubt from a Muslim, JW's, or even some skeptics' quarter.

There is nothing like 'three images' found in the Scriptures. Only Christ, who was manifested in human flesh is declared to be the Perfect Image and Representation of God Heb. 1:3. God can be seen IN Jesus. He had all the attributes and characters of Godhead. There was nothing lacking in Him of the divine qualities that is necessary for being God. The doctrine of Trinity is one of the great mysteries of the Bible. The finite human intelligence is insufficient to fully understand the Infinite God. It is only possible to keep growing in the understanding of the Almighty as far as he has revealed Himself in the Scriptures.

When we say God is ONE, He is ONE-IN-THREE and THREE-IN-ONE. All three Persons of the Godhead is co-eternal, co-equal and co-substantial. None is greater or smaller in any way than the other. Each Person is described as Eternal, Rom. 16:26; Rev. 22:13; Heb. 9:14; Omnipresent, Jer. 23:24; Eph. 1:23; Ps. 139:7; Omnipotent, Gen. 17:1; Rev. 1:8; Rom. 15:19; Jer. 32:17; Heb. 1:3; Lk. 1:35; Omniscient, Acts. 15:18; Jn. 21:17; 1 Cor. 2:10,11; Creator, Gen. 1:1; Job. 33:4; Ps. 148:5; Jn. 1:3; Job. 26:13. Read the Bible with great care and prayer. All doubts will vanish. You can see the clear picture of God as He is revealed in the Scriptures.

For several reasons that are very clear, you have almost turned a blind eye to every important and plain teachings of the Bible, regarding the doctrine of the Trinity. In the first place, your argument for an Only Jesus view is based on bible passages which in fact disproves your own false assumptions. Improper understanding of Scriptures leads to false interpretations, the foundation of dangerous heresies. But what surprises me, is the selection of some choice verses to defend a non-biblical idea and trying to explain them out of context. You have tried your best to defend the Only Jesus view on irrational analogy, rather than proper expressions of the real matter.

The "Only Jesus" belief is fundamentally a flawed narrow thought lacking biblical support. All evidences shown in favor of the Only Jesus view is totally false, an outcome of poor calculation of the Scriptures. No where in the Bible did Jesus or His apostles taught any kind of Only Jesus teachings, indifferent to the doctrine of God who is composed of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit united as ONE GOD in His essential Being or Essence. The misunderstanding of the doctrine of Trinity has deepened your doubts about Jesus, His relationship with the Father and the Holy Spirit. None of the proofs shown to strengthen your point has any sort of biblical basis.

You have to recognise some of the basic Bible doctrines without which the Biblical Christian faith falters. One among them is the profound, rich and blessed doctrine of Trinity. Without the proper knowledge of the Biblical concept of God, the Person and Work of Jesus will give a shattered image leading to false belief, useless for genuine Christian life.

I would like to present some of the illogical, poor explanations given in your response. The argument has several loopholes, non-biblical human ideas to back up the Only Jesus teaching not found anywhere in the Bible.

Myth # 1. We are made in the Image of God the Father; We are the offspring of the Godhead-Singular, who is Jesus.

Could you please give me one single Bible passage to prove your crooked idea? Where does the Bible say that man was created in the Image of God the Father? When you believe only in Jesus then from what source did you got God the Father? You could subtly say that Jesus is the same God the Father. What a nonsense! Nothing can be further from the truth.

To whom did Jesus prayed when He was on earth? About whom did He said gave Him authority and mission to accomplish on earth? In Jn. 14:1 Jesus said, ".....BELIEVE IN GOD, BELIEVE ALSO IN ME". Here Jesus claimed equality with the Father and asked His followers to believe on Him and the Father in an equal way. No NT writers have portrayed Jesus as the God, who changes identity to reveal Himself as the Father and the Holy Spirit in different situation to carry out divine works. If the apostles knew only about Jesus as the Messiah and God, then why did Philip asked Him to show a particular person called the Father? The truth is, Jesus, the Son of God, the Second Person of the Trinity is a distinct Person from God the Father. Jesus had always spoke of differentiation between Himself and the Father.

When Philip asked Jesus to show the Father, He replied that, whosoever saw Him has seen the Father also. This means there is a separate Person called the Father who can be seen and approached through the agency of Jesus. It is Jesus who reveals the Father, because He is the One who was sent by the Father to save the lost sheep, redeem fallen mankind from sin. Without Jesus no one can approach God. They completely share all the divine attributes and characters in equal proportion to exist as ONE ETERNAL GOD.

This is the primary truth of the Bible. When a person believes in Jesus, not only on His Name but also on His Person fully, he comes in fellowship with the Father and the Son. This is clearly stated in 1 Jn. 1:3 - "..... "TRULY OUR FELLOWSHIP IS WITH THE FATHER, AND WITH HIS SON JESUS CHRIST". John never meant a Christian fellowship is with the Father and Son Jesus Christ as if it was a double title of a single divine Person. Throughout the Scriptures God the Father and God the Son, Jesus Christ is shown as separate Persons within the Godhead.

Is Jesus the same Father, Son and Holy Spirit as often claimed by the infamous Jesus Only group? They are at loss of words to clearly describe the "Only Jesus" idea against the Biblical revelation of the Triune God. The Only Jesus group rely only on a small part of the Scriptures, not in accordance with the rich and immeasurable Truth, which shapes a Christian believer's life in association with the Triune God. The blind belief of the Only Jesus group is unscriptural, negligence of the other two Persons of the Godhead makes them to fall into confusion and mix up the Separate Personal Entity of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

We suggest you to get rid of all those misconceptions and come to the correct knowledge of the Scriptures, lest you slip into still more erroneous teachings!

Myth # 2. We are made in the image of God the Father - Singular. Are humans made in the image of God the Father? Nothing is found in the Bible to match your crude idea.

In Gen. 1: 26, "AND GOD SAID, LET US MAKE MAN IN OUR IMAGE, AFTER OUR LIKENESS....." Why does God converse within Himself in a plural manner, rather than singular? Was there anyone beside Him to consult the details about how to create man? In the opening passages of the Scriptures an implicit indication of Trinity is found. The Heb. name Elohim, a plural noun in form suggests plurality in Deity. The divine plan to create man was enacted in the Godhead between Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit. Notice the UNITY of GOD mentioned in v. 27, "SO GOD CREATED MAN IN HIS OWN IMAGE, IN THE IMAGE OF GOD CREATED HE HIM".

Man was not created in the image of three divine Persons. Here the scene is shifted to singularity signifying GOD is ONE and not three separate "gods" of different natures, wills, and works. See 1 Cor. 11: 7. Now the problem that makes us to ask is, if there are three persons in the Godhead do human beings have "three images"? The answer lies in Gen. 1:27. Originally man was created in the Image of God, not the Father. There is no question whether he has any impression of "three images" representing the three Divine Persons found in the Godhead. After the fall man lost his original Image of God, wherein he was created. Nevertheless he retained the ability of being rational, to know His creator and submit to His will as it was originally intended. Still humans do possess the identity of His Creator's Image implanted in his original creation, in a somewhat shattered visage, marred by sin.

The Bible says in Heb. 2:16 that "For verily He took not on Him the nature of angels, but He took on Him the seed of Abraham". Because man was created in the Image of God, a special quality distinguishing him from all other creation material or immaterial, he is favored to receive redemption and return to his Master and Creator God. In order to regain the Image of God, he has to be conformed to the "Image of Christ" That is the will and purpose of God for every true Christian believers. Apostle Paul says in Rom. 8:29 "For whom did He forknow, He also did predestinate to be conformed to the IMAGE of HIS SON, that HE might be the firstborn among many brethren" Read carefully 2Cor. 3:18; Eph. 4:24; Col. 1:28; 3:10 to understand the True Image humans need for a correct restoration of their original state.

An unsaved person is in the sinful image of his "human progenitor", Adam the father of mankind. He has to attain the Image of God, which is found in JESUS CHRIST OUR LORD AND SAVIOR. He is the "TRUE IMAGE" of the invisible GOD. Jesus, the Son of God was manifested in sinful human flesh, to make us rich and attain the original intention God purposed in Christ before the foundation of the world.

Do the Only Jesus group preach Jesus as He is found in the Bible? Did the apostles preached the modern day evil teaching of Only Jesus? The Bible is a sure witness against this heretical spiritless teaching. "..... HOW GOD ANNOINTED JESUS OF NAZARETH WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT; WHO WENT ABOUT DOING GOOD, AND HEALING ALL THAT WERE OPPRESSED OF THE DEVIL; FOR GOD WAS WITH HIM" Acts. 10:38.

A united work of the Triune God in the salvation of mankind is well marked. God the Father sent His only begotten Son Jesus Christ into the world to save the sinners. The incarnated Christ ministered under the authority of Him who has sent with the help of the Holy Spirit. The early apostles had the same experience like their Master Christ. In their periodical letters to the churches all apostles wrote the deep and rich doctrine of the Triune God. Almost all letters penned by the apostles to various churches opened with Trinitarian blessings.

Also it ended with the same Trinitarian benediction.

THE PRECARIOUS POSITION OF THE ONLY JESUS GROUP:-
1. The Only Jesus group believes only on the "name" of Jesus. But, sadly Jesus doesn't believe such men who has totally failed to believe on Himself and His Person. Read carefully Jn. 2:23-25. These people trust the "name" of Jesus and not Jesus. In contrast, the true disciples of Jesus keep their trust, confidence, and faith on and in JESUS. Jn. 2:11. This is called the COMPLETE CHRISTIAN FAITH. This is the belief of the early apostolic Church. Any other belief contrary to this Biblical standard is incomplete. Falling anything short from this Faith will be dangerous in the long run.
2. Bogus Christians strongly believe on the "name" of Jesus and happily live a sinful life Mt. 7:21-23. They serve both God and the devil.

"SOME INDEED PREACH CHRIST EVEN OF ENVY AND STRIFE; AND SOME ALSO OF GOOD WILL" Phil. 1:15.

Preaching Christ with proud and envy is from the flesh. They don't have any portion with the LORD.

"WE PREACH CHRIST, WHO IS BLESSED FOR EVER WITH FULL AUTHORITY FOR THE GLORIFICATION OF GOD THE FATHER WITH THE HELP OF THE HOLY SPIRIT WHO HAS ANOINTED US TO DO HIS GLORIOUS MINISTRY".

Let us worship the TRIUNE GOD.

SUMMARY

Man should find God. He should come to Jesus. Jesus calls him. He will not have true peace and happiness until he comes to God ; What little good life that he has at present also will pass off from him. Man should leave ungodly life, a life of his own liking. He should come to God. He should live in fellowship with God. He should do the will of God. That is the life made out for man. That alone will bring him real peace and form a solution for all his problems.

God is the life-force of man. Abandoning this life-force is the root cause of all his mental disturbances, confusions and hopelessness. You should look for God. Search and diligently inquire of Him (Zep. 1:6). If you search for Him with your whole heart, you will find Him (Jer. 29:13-14).

You will find peace.

Blessed is the man who finds God!

In Islam the human relationship with God is that of a slave and his master! "This is the reason Muhammad in fear attempted suicide as the spirit of slavery was speaking to him".

The Bible says "God has not given us a spirit of slavery to fear but the Spirit of Power and of Love and of a Sound Mind calling God Abba Father" Rom 8

Question: If Jesus is God how can he favor himself?

Answer: Jesus (Son of God) prayed to His Father God during His time on earth. He said He will send the Holy Spirit to inhabit us. So God the Father who sent His Son into the world was pleased that His Son God manifest in flesh lived a sinless holy life although he was faced with the same temptations we face everyday. So after Christ's flesh died on the cross, God the Father raised Christ's body because Jesus The Son of God was highly favored by God the Father for completing the perfect atonement for our sins by offering Himself on the cross. The Bible was written by 40 authors over 1,800 years starting from 3,500 years back who received this message from God vs Quran written also by a person in 650 AD almost 2,000 years after the Bible was handed to humans by God. The Bible's every page and chapter has history and archeological authentication to support that it is a fact proven and credible. Jesus Christ is the only one who said I am.the way the truth and the life and no one cometh to the Father but by me. I have more faith in God who came down as man to reveal Himself to His children, one we can call Father.

1. Jesus Christ said God is our Father and we are His children, but Muhammad implied God is our master and we are His slaves.

2. Jesus Christ rose from the grave and established Himself as God and His open tomb is here today making history, while Muhammad's remains are kept for all to visit

3. Jesus taught us to love and forgive, whereas Islamisation is being used to kill non muslims (Ex: ISIS, Sudan, Pakistan, etc.). Exceptions: moderate Arabs are not doing this in Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Jordan, etc., and are fighting as US allies to eradicate ISIS.

QUESTIONS MUSLIMS FREQUENTLY ASK AND ANSWERS:

We recently discussed the divinity of Christ in response to frequently asked questions by muslims related to Christ's claims:

Question: In our book it says our God forgave Adam for his sin. Why did the God of the Bible not forgive Adam?

Answer: The wages of sin is death. Jesus the Son of God died for us and was sent by God the Father to the earth to shed His blood for the remission of sins. Jesus was the perfect sacrifice since He was and is the only person born in this world that did not sin. He was wounded for our transgressions bruised for our iniquities the chastisement of our sins was upon Him and by His stripes we are healed. Sin has consequences and God being a just God cannot just say I forgive you. An unjust nation person or an unjust deity alone will say I forgive murderers and child molesters and thieves to the point that lack of judgment will make the streets and the nation unsafe. Where there is no law there the people perish. Where there is law there is safety but there are consequences for breaking the law. God the Father of Jesus Christ the Son of God is a lawful God and since without the shedding of a perfect person's blood there is no remission of sins God the Son came down as man and died and shed His blood for us so we can receive forgiveness of sins because He bore the consequences of our sins and our breaking of the law of God. If you reject this God who died and shed His blood for you you will have no recourse when you stand before this holy and just God on judgment day. By the way if your God is truly a forgiving God why is he asking you to behead those who do not become muslims?

Question: If Jesus is David's son and had had a mother how can he be God?

Answer: If David called Jesus Lord how can Jesus be David's son? All who obey God's Word are Christ's relatives and His brother sister mother etc.

Question: Is Jesus begotten of God when newer Bible translations omit this word "begotten"?

Answer: Authorized King James Version is the original translation but people find it difficult to understand since it was written in ancient English.

Question: Can you stop your missionary work or we will end it?

Answer: I am not a missionary but a warrior for Christ the Lion of the tribe of Judah. Is your religion so weak you have to kill and threaten others to propagate it?

Question: Our God does not allow anyone to be Co equal with him. Your's allows this? Jesus and God? Trinity is false.

Answer: In Christianity the Bible teaches that God came down to raise us to His elevation so we may become like Jesus Christ. Does your God get worried about job security or feel insecure?

Question: you claim jesus as god...1 who was god when he (jesus) was just in the womb of mary 2.how do u feel ur god being nursed during his birth.3 can we hve god who is like human beings 4.a god who was a shepherd!!!4A GOD WHOM YOU CLAIM DIED FOR UR SINS!!!!!!!think big youngman...dont be lost in DARK

Answer:
1. Father Son Holy Spirit
2. Feel really good because he can better relate with mom's and babies
3. Yes because He is our Father
4. Yes indeed Jesus died for the sins of the entire world.

I am in the light!

Question: God dies?

Answer: If you and I had not sinned the flesh of Jesus would not have to have been sacrificed but He died that you and I may live forever when we believe in Him. His flesh died but He was alive in the Spirit like He always was before He came into this earth and was manifest in the flesh.

Question: How can God be sacrificed by his worshippers?

Answer:
There were only 2 options since God is a just judge:

1. Send all mankind to hell for eternity as the penalty for sin since all have sinned
2. Sacrifice Himself for our sins. Since all humans sinned humans are the ones who had to sacrifice Jesus so through Christ's Blood alone all mankind can be saved.

Comment: So Jesus is not God?

Answer: Rev 1:8 He is was and always will be God!

Question: One of the biggest challenges Christians & non believers
will have to face is to deny the proof presented in this group!! Show us your
proof if you have any better than what we have today. If you can prove us wrong
we will leave Islam. This is a direct challenge to the world!
Analyze whats being said in the Group then prove us wrong.

Answer: I applaud you for your openness. You are different from others who send death threats to suppress the truth and cannot discuss intellectually. However, proof is in the 4th dimension. We live in 3 dimensions. Ask God to open your spiritual eyes and He will open it like He opened the eyes of muslim priests who are now Christian pastors in churches sharing the truth.

Question: Is there anyone in the world that has moved mountains?

Answer: Yes that's how USA got it's freedom from British rule. George Washington removed the mountain by faith in God. That's how Israel moved the mountain and did the impossible winning the war. I have moved challenges that we call mountains in my life by faith in God! Stop challenging fishes to see if they can swim, eagles to see if they can fly, lions if they can roar.

Go to Israel and see the open tomb of Jesus, the rest are dead for Jesus is the only one that moved the mountain. Before you issue your next challenge I want you to get play dough from Walmart, fashion it into a man, breathe into it, make it live and stand up and call you daddy! If we don't keep responding to all your challenges it is because we have a busy schedule moving mountains, rolling stones, filling valleys and chasing demons in Christ's name and don't have time to be sitting in front of a computer answering all your questions.

Question: Why did God kill the people in the Old Testament who sinned?

Answer: You're quoting scripture out of context like saying George Eisenhower shot Hitler! God is a just God but is also a loving God. So He sent His Son Jesus to die for all and shed His blood so by accepting Jesus you can receive His pardon for sins to avoid spending eternity in hell for the consequences of sin (2nd death). Have you been to death row? There are consequences for breaking human laws. The wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. If the person in death row does not accept the governor's pardon he or she will die for murdering others. Even so If you reject Jesus Christ's pardon obtained through the death and shedding of God's own blood then there is no more hope! Jesus said except you repent you will all likewise perish!

Question: Our book says Adam was forgiven when he repented for eating the apple.

Answer: Yes God Jehovah forgave Adam because of Jesus Christ's Blood for sin has consequences per Bible. However, the other book you quote says to kill all who don't accept your religion and that is exactly what is happening in Muslim countries globally. You are engaging in genocide now! How many millions you have slaughtered for not converting g to islam. How many innocent people and kids you killed in the 911 attack? Your actions speak louder than your words. God Jesus died a torturous death for you and shed His last drop of blood for all sins to grant you forgiveness so you won't perish. What did yours do? He is killing innocent millions even today it continues. We called the most knowledgeable scholar in Islam for public debate and he chickened out. It is sad you refused the opportunity to debate or reason intellectually when our scholar was alive several years back!

Question: Why does God need to rest on the 7th day?

Answer: God created in 6 days and did not create anything on the 7th day. Rest does not mean He went to sleep. It means he completed creation in 6 days. Is that clear?

Question: Bible says God put the rainbow in the sky! Really?

Answer: Initially, light did not get split into 7 colors when it passed through a prism or raindrops. After the flood in Noah's time God created a new law that when light passed through raindrops or prisms it would get split into 7 colors. That's why we see a rainbow today.

Question: Do you think the Bible is true because T-Rex and Long-neck were too big for the ark.

Answer: These dinosaurs I believe were extinct by then, but if there were any protected species then, Noah would have taken a T-Rex baby or a Long-neck baby into the ark!

Question: Jesus said "today you will be with me in paradise" and then said a few days later "touch me not for I have not ascended to my Father". Could you explain?

Answer: We are taught to pray "Our Father who art in heaven, not our Father who art in paradise"! Father is in a place in heaven in the most holy place called the Holy of holies on His eternal throne in His heavenly temple fighting your battles, answering your prayers, healing your sickness in the Name of Jesus Christ! That is where Jesus ascended with His own blood to the Father for the remission of our sins. He was in paradise with the repented thief earlier which is in a different location.

Comment: I don't believe in hell

Response: You can believe after you die and end up in hell which has no exit or you can listen to these sounds of the lost people from hell being tormented by the flame and demons including satan. Want to listen to some sounds from hell:

My religious friends told me Jesus never claimed to be Almighty God. But in Revelation 1:8 Jesus did. Jesus said: "I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty (Re:1:8)". Further, Jesus Christ's closest disciple who was the only apostle who followed Jesus Christ to the cross stated: "1Jo:5:20: And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life". Then they told me, man cannot become God. So I showed them John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God. John 1:14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us. Jesus was already God when He came in the flesh. The reason the Bible is credible and supercedes man's opinion is because every page in this Holy Book including the arrival of the Blessed Comforter can be tied to a historical date! Therefore it is true history and not fiction. It is the inspired Word of God and the oldest book in History!

I can do all things through Jesus Christ (Almighty God) Who strengthens me!

Do not be alarmed, the enemy will be disarmed.
Don't look down or look around, look up and stand your ground!
The darker the night, the brighter the light
Don't whine, the sun (Son) will shine

Demons may bruise our feet, but we will crush their teeth
Silly bullies, please hearken! Christianity cannot be threatened!!
God is with us He is our Rock!
Don't lose your speech with your empty talk
Confiscating the speeches will not stop the preachers.
Just because you are in the saddle, don't think you can stop the eagle
God's foundation will stand, even if you raise against us your trembling hand
Switching off the incandescent light
Will not stop the sun (Son) shining so bright
Go to the library and read Christian history
God will win every battle, even though your hand is on the throttle
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God
He is the King of Kings, bow down to Him all ye things

Question: Did Jesus Christ say I am the Son of God?

Answer: JESUS THE "SON" OF GOD

By Silas

NOTE: Many of the themes in this article were taken from John Gilchrist's "The Christian Witness to the Muslim".

INTRODUCTION

Jesus called Himself the "Son of God" throughout the Gospels, (John 3:16-18), and the disciples also identified Him as the Son of God in their writings, (Rom 1:3).

Further, Jesus identified Himself as God revealed in the flesh, (John 8:58), and His disciples identified Him as God, (John 1:1, Phil 2:5-11). How could Jesus be The Son of God, and God at the same time? What does this term - "Son of God" mean? And if Jesus is the Son, in what way is Jesus God's Son? Did God have physical relations with Mary and get her pregnant?

Many Muslims do not understand what this term, according to Christian theology, actually means. They have asked me these or similar questions. This paper focuses on what the term "Son of God" signifies in Christian theology with respect to Muslim understanding.

MUSLIMS AND THE SON OF GOD

Muhammad, the founder of Islam, misunderstood what the term "Son of God" meant with respect to Christianity. He thought of it only in terms of sexual reproduction, i.e. that God fathered a child through sexual intercourse with Mary. Therefore he spoke out against it.

Christians also reject that God had physical intercourse with Mary, but we understand Christ being God's Son as an analogical term. We believe that the eternal Son of God, one with the Father from all eternity, united to Him in one Spirit, "became flesh and dwelt among us" (John 1:14), and took "the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men" (Philippians 2:7). We believe in the incarnation of the Son of God.

Muhammad did hear the Christians proclaim Jesus the Messiah as God's Son, but understanding or not, he specifically denied that Jesus was the Son of God. He said in the Quran,

Sura 2:116 - "They say: "God has begotten a son". Glory be to Him. No, to Him belongs all that is in the heavens and on earth: everything renders worship to Him."

and,

Sura 9:30 - "The Christians say the Messiah is the Son of God, that is a saying from their mouths."

Muhammad was unable to distinguish between the Christian belief in Jesus as the Son of God and the Arab Pagan belief in idols as offspring of God, i.e., Al-Lat, Al-Uzza, and Manat, (these were idols worshipped around Mecca as daughters of the supreme God - or Allah). Muhammad misunderstood that Christians in no way consider Jesus - the Son of God, in the same way the Arab Pagans understood their idols.

Muhammad's misconception of the Sonship of Christ is another proof that the Quran was not revealed to him by God, but rather it was built upon Muhammad's own concepts and ideology.

Because of Muhammad's misunderstanding, Islam places limits on God's power. In view of this, a Christian writer commented that "to assert that God has no Son because He has no wife is like saying that God is not living because He does not draw breath." Daniel, "Islam and the West, p.182.

WHAT THE TERM "SON OF GOD" SIGNIFIES

The expression "Son of God", is an analogical term. It indicates origin, a close association, or identification. In Christian theology it describes the relationship of two persons of the triune God. It expresses an intimate relationship between two persons: God the Father, and God the Son - Jesus the Messiah.

Here are several scriptures illustrating this facet of their relationship:

John 17:5 - "And now Father, glorify me in Your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began."

Here Jesus stated that He was with the Father before the world began.

Colossians 1:13-20 "For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities all things were created by him and for him. He is before all things and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead so that in everything He might have the supremacy. For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him and through him to reconcile to himself all things whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross."

Here, we see the term "Son of God", brought to light: "the image of the invisible God".

Hebrews 1:1-3 "In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son whom He appointed heir of all things and through whom He made the universe. The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of His being, sustaining all things by His powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven."

Again, we see the relationship between the Father and the Son disclosed, "the exact representation of His being".

John 1:1-3, 10, 14, 18 "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through Him all things were made; without Him, nothing was made that has been made......(10) He was in the world and though the world was made through Him, the world did not recognize Him....(14) The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father full of grace and truth......(18) No one has ever seen God, but God the One and Only, who is at the Father's side has made Him known."

John 14:8, 10 "Don't you know me Phillip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, "Show us the Father"? Don't you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me?"

Jesus plainly told Phillip, "Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father".

From these verses we see that in Christ, the invisible God is revealed. Jesus was with the Father before the world began. Christ, as God the Son, is the Creator of all things. God in all His fullness, dwelt in Christ, reconciling the world. We see that Christ, as the Son of God - God's representation, is God manifest and revealed to the world. Angels, prophets, and things can reveal to us something about God. But God alone can reveal God. It takes God to reveal Himself to mankind. What better way for the eternal revealer to be revealed to mankind on earth than by clothing His self-expresion in human form?

JESUS AS THE WORD OF GOD

Muslims believe that the Quran - their Word of God - is eternal. The Quran also calls Jesus the Word of God. Since Muslims believe that the Quran is eternal, yet is able to enter into the limitations of time and space, and become available in book form, could not Jesus as the Word of God, be made manifest in human form? If on earth, Muslims believe that the uncreated Word of God - i.e., the Quran - is found as a book making it both uncreated and created, then cannot the uncreated Word of God be revealed as a human, if God willed it? That God has willed this is revealed in the testimony of the Gospels - God's eternal self-expression, His Word, His Son, has entered human form as

Jesus the Messiah.

God the Father and God the Son are both God, but they are different persons. They are equal in essence, indeed of one essence, yet one is subject to the other's authority. The human analogy goes no further than this - an earthly father and his son are both human to the full, yet the second must bow to the authority of the first. Jesus is subject to the Father's authority. When He came to earth He came as the Father's ambassador to redeem men from sin and, being found in human form, took His subjection to the Father's authority to the point of a son to a father's relationship.

As the Son of God, Christ, the second person of the Trinity, possesses the same essence as the Father, yet is subject to the Father as an earthly son is subject to his father. Jesus is not the Son of God because of His mighty works and miracles, but He did those works because He is the Son of God.

The prime duty of a son is to honor and obey his father, to serve him freely and fully. The ideas of being a servant and a son are found throughout the Bible. Jesus as God the Son, served God the Father not out of compulsion but because of His unity with the Father, served out of love.

MUSLIM ARGUMENTS AGAINST JESUS BEING THE SON OF GOD

Muslims frequently ask that if Jesus were really God's Son, or God in the flesh, why didn't Jesus know the date of the hour of judgment? Ref. Matthew 24:36.

"But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only."

Or if Jesus were God in the flesh, why did He say,

"The Son can don nothing of his own accord but only what the sees the Father doing,.....The Father is greater than I,.... I can do nothing on my own authority." John 5:19, 14:28, 5:30.

Muslims will ask rhetorical questions such as, "Wouldn't God know the last hour of Judgment?" Or, "If Jesus were God, why did He say, "the Father is greater than I"?"

The answer lies in what Christ's Sonship on earth entails. The passage that best addresses it is Philippians 2:5-8. "Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who being in the form of God thought it not robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation and took upon Him the form of a servant and was made in the likeness of men: and being found in fashion as a man He humbled Himself and became obedient unto death, even the death on the cross."

Here Christ emptied Himself. The Sonship of Christ is revealed in this: He was revealed as God in the flesh, and yet submitted to God the Father. He was limited as a man, and He glorified God the Father. The analogical term "Son" best describes Christ's relationship with God the Father.

Christ's exalted relationship is even seen in the very verse Muslims choose to attack His Sonship... In Mark 13:32 Christ says, "But of that day and hour knows no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father." Here, Jesus places Himself above men, and above the angels. Jesus describes Himself alone in a category in relation to God.

Likewise, Christ when saying that He does nothing of His own accord, states that "whatever the Father does, the Son does likewise." Christ establishes His Sonship and puts Himself in perfect harmony with God. Even Muhammad is declared in the Quran as a sinner in Sura 48:2, but Christ walked in perfect harmony with the Father.

As Muhammad failed to understand what "Son of God" signified, so today, many Muslims continue to misunderstand. The term "Son of God" does not mean that God had intercourse with Mary, or created sons for Himself, but that Jesus, as God, is the image of God, made manifest to men. As Muslims believe that the Quran is eternal, uncreated, and is the Word of God found in physical book form, they should be able to understand that Jesus is eternal, uncreated, and is the Living Word of God in physical living form.

CONCLUSION

Jesus manifested his eternal abiding glory to John - as opposed to the veiled form of a humble servant he had while he walked this earth - while John was imprisoned on the isle of Patmos, revealing himself as what he truly was and will forever be, God Almighty -

Revelation 1:8 "I am the Alpha and the Omega, says the Lord God, who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.

Revelation 22:13, 16. "I am the Alpha and Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.".....(16) I Jesus have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches.

Jesus is the Son of God. This means that He is God, revealed to man. The term "Son of God" is an analogy, describing the relationship between two persons of God. Christ is the image of God to mankind. God - omnipotent, revealed Himself to mankind, in Christ.

Jesus is Lord. Amen, come Lord Jesus.

TITLES OF JESUS FROM QUR'AN AND THE BIBLE

1. THE MESSIAH (Al-Masih)

Jesus alone is called the Messiah in the Qur'an. Eleven times he is given this title and occasionally he is referred to solely by this title without being referred to by name. No explanation of the title is given in the Qur'an. What is of interest, however, is that Jesus is chiefly called the Messiah in passages that are alleged to have been revealed to Muhammad at Medina after the Hijra.

The title Messiah is extremely relevant to both the Christian and Jewish religions. The Jews, in their holy scriptures, have an abundance of prophecies of one glorious Savior to come who is called the Messiah (Daniel 9:25), the anointed one, and they have long awaited his coming. At the time of Jesus this Messianic expectancy reached its peak but after the destruction of Jerusalem forty years after the ascension of Jesus this hope waned among the Jews.

To the Christians, Jesus is the promised Messiah. He said he was in no uncertain terms. (John 4:25-26) The Jews in his time could not perceive that Jesus was the Messiah because they had expected a military leader who would drive out all foreign powers from the land of the Jews and set up a kingdom in Israel which would possess world-wide authority. But the Messiah came "not to be served, but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for many" (Matthew 20:28).

In Hebrew the word Messiah means "the Anointed One". It can, in a lesser sense, refer to any priest or anointed leader and occasionally the expression is used in this context in the Jewish Scriptures. But it became in time a title for the one who was to come, the final herald of God's salvation, the Redeemer of the world.

Significantly the title only appears in the Qur'an after Muhammad has made some contact with the Jews and Christians of Arabia. Clearly Qur'anic use of the title is linked to Jewish and Christian beliefs about the Messiah. Therefore, we must go into Jewish expectations and Christian beliefs about the Jewish and Christian beliefs about the Messiah to find out what the title means.

At this stage, however, we must ask whether this title Messiah has any meaning that makes the one who holds the title in any way superior to the other great prophets of God. In Surah 4:171 it is said that the Messiah is "only a messenger" but to both the Jews and the Christians the Messiah is a man who is the greatest among men, one possessed of regality, majesty, excellence and splendour for above that of all other men. He is unique in his glory and there is no one to compare with him.

By offering no explanation of this title, the Qur'an is at the same time making no contest against the accepted longstanding beliefs of the Jews and Christians about the Messiah. To both he is far more than just a messenger. The title in Jewish and Christian scriptural usage clearly implies greatness of such a degree that all the true messengers of God will ultimately bow to him in homage and obeisance. By admitting the Christian contention that Jesus is the Messiah, the Qur'an is in fact implying that he is the ultimate man of glory in human history and that the is the one who is the final expression of the revelation of God to men.

Nevertheless we cannot even stop here for we find in the Bible that, to both Jews and Christians, the title Messiah is in fact synonymous with the title Son of God. In these circumstances it is rather amazing to find that the Qur'an calls Jesus the Messiah and denies that he is the Son of God in the same breath. Let us examine some of the test in the Bible that show that the expressions Messiah and Son of God are synonymous. (The word "Christ" means "Messiah" and as we have been consistently referring to the "Messiah" and have been quoting from a Muslim translation of the Qur'an which uses the word Messiah rather than Christ which is used by other Muslim translators, we shall continue to do so).

a) Jewish believers in Jesus called him both the Messiah and the Son of God, Simon Peter was the first to do so:

"You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God". (Matthew 16:16)

Martha also used the two titles simultaneously in her expression of belief in Jesus.

"I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, he who is coming into the world". (John 11:27)

b) The High Priest of the Jews used the titles simultaneously with one another asking Jesus if he was the Messiah.

"I adjure you, by the living God, tell us if you are the Messiah, the Son of God". (Matthew 26:63)

c) The early Christians used the titles synonymously with one another as well in various contexts:

"The beginning of the gospel of Jesus the Messiah, the Son of God". (Mark 1:1)

"These are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah the Son of God and that believing you may have life in his name". (John 20:31)

d) Even the demons did so as well when they spoke to Jesus:

"And demons also came out of many, crying, "You are the Son of God!! But he rebuked them, and would not allow them to speak, because they knew that he was the Messiah". (Luke 4:41)

From these many texts we can see that the Messiah is no less than Son of God himself. This is no ordinary title - it is a title of the highest eminence and only the Son of God could exclusively claim the title of Messiah for himself according to the expectations of the Jews and the teachings of the prophets who preceded him.

By admitting that Jesus is the Messiah and by confirming his own emphatic declaration to this effect (John 4:25-26), the Qur'an has given Jesus a title which implies nothing less than that he is indeed the Son of God.

2. THE WORD OF GOD (Kalimatullah)

Jesus is also called "His word" in Surah 4:171, meaning the Word of God. In Surah 3:45 we also read that the angels said to Mary "Allah giveth thee glad tidings of a word from Him, whose name is the Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary". More than once in the Qur'an, therefore, Jesus is called God's Word. He is also called the Word of God in the Bible.

"He is clad in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which he is called is The Word of God". (Revelation 19:13)

Once again, therefore, Jesus is given a title in the Qur'an which the Bible gives him as well. Like the title Messiah this is a very distinctive and exalted title. Whether we take it in its actual Biblical form, "The Word of God", or in its actual Qur'anic forms, "a Word from God" and "God's Word", two things are strikingly and abundantly clear. Jesus himself, in his actual person, is the Word; and the source, origin and the fountainhead of the Word is God.

As with the title Messiah, the Qur'an gives no explanation of the title. Nevertheless, in seeking to reconcile it with the Qur'anic assertion that Jesus was only a messenger, Muslim commentators generally have claimed that Jesus is called the Word of God solely in accordance with the teaching in the Qur'an that he was created in the womb of a virgin-woman by the Word of God:

"She said: My Lord!! How can I have a child when no mortal hath touched me? He said: So it will be. Allah createth what He will, if He decreeth a thing, He saith unto it only; Be! and it is." (Surah 3:47)

By the single word of God "Be", it is alleged that Jesus was created and from this verse Muslim commentators have concluded that this is why Jesus is called the Word of God. It is a convenient but inadequate conclusion. According to that verse, this is how anything is created by God. But Jesus alone receives the title Word of God and its unique character must compel us to reject this theory as over-simplistic. Secondly it is exposed further as being an insufficient answer to the question of its meaning by a simple consideration of a similar statement just twelve verses later in the same Surah:

"Lo! the likeness of Jesus with Allah is as the likeness of Adam, He created him from dust, then He said unto him, Be! and he is". (Surah 3:59)

Once again it is said of Jesus that he was created by God purely through the expression "Be" but this time it is said that "the likeness of Jesus with Allah is as the likeness of Adam", implying that both were made by the single word of God "Be" in the same way. If Jesus is called the Word of God purely as a result of the manner of his conception, then Adam too must be the Word of God for according to the Qur'an they were both created in the same manner. Now a real difficulty arises because Adam is not called the Word of God in the Qur'an. Nor are the angels, nor is any other creature so called in the Qur'an. Jesus alone is called the Word of God.

The very exceptional nature of the title, by which Jesus is distinguished from all other men and all creatures, demands that there is some other meaning and significance behind it. The very fact that the title is given to Jesus alone in both the Qur'an and the Bible clearly shows that there is something about the person of Jesus that makes him the Word of God in a way in which no other man or creature can compare. Jesus himself is called the Word of God and the title relates to his person and not to any feature or circumstance of his life.

As mentioned earlier, one of the distinctive features of this title is the emphasis of deity as the source of the person who bears it. The Word is from God. And the title Word implies that he is the communication and revelation, in his own person, of God to men. The Word of God is one who indeed is actively the real manifestation of God to men. To know him is to know God. He does not merely bring the religion and words of God to men, he himself is the word and revelation of God, Jesus himself made this clear when he said:

"He who has seen me has seen the Father". (John 14:9)

Let us now turn to the plain teaching of the Bible about Jesus as the Word of God. The prologue to the Gospel of John gives us a clear explanation of the title:

"In the beginning was the Word. And the Word was with God. And the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him and without him was not anything made that was made". (John 1:1-3)

To emphasize strongly that Jesus himself is the Word of God and not that God's word is somehow related to him as is suggested by the major Muslim commentators, let us briefly paraphrase those two verses:

In the beginning before God ever began to create, the Word already existed. Far from being part of the created order, the Word was in the realm of God and indeed the very nature of the Word was that of God. When God first began to fashion the created order, the Word already existed in the divine order. He himself was not created but all other things were created by God through him as agent, indeed as the very Word of God. Because he alone is the Word of God, and is therefore the sole means of communication between God and his creatures, nothing was created without being created by and through him. (John 1:1-2)

The clear teaching of the Bible is that Jesus existed as the Word of God before God ever created anything and that he is therefore deity. But then the Word of God became the man Jesus, the son of Mary.

"And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth". (John 1:14)

Jesus is the Word of God not because of any intervention by God at his conception nor by any other circumstances. He always was, from all eternity, the Word of God before he took on human flesh and became the man Jesus, the son of Mary.

Every prophet of God has been a messenger but only Jesus is the Word of God. The distinction comes out in this contrast; whereas every prophet only delivered the words of God when proclaiming God's message, Jesus at all times spoke the words of God. In private conversation with their friends, for example, the prophets spoke their own words and we accordingly distinguish between the prophet's own words in normal conversation and the words of God which the prophets spoke at various intervals whenever bidden to do so by God. But Jesus is the Word of God and every word he spoke - whether in teaching or in private conversation - was God's work. There was no distinction between the words of Jesus and the words of God. This is abundantly clear from the teaching of Jesus himself:

"I have not spoken on my own authority, but the Father who sent me has given me commandment what to say and what to speak. And I know that his commandment is eternal life. What I say, therefore, I say as the Father has bidden me". (John 12:49-50)

"The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority, but the Father who dwells in me does his works." (John 14:10)

The words which Jesus spoke were not the words of a man but of God. Yet because Jesus himself is the Word of God, he could quite justifiably call them his own words. This is something no other prophet could do. No one else could say that his own words were the words of God. See how Jesus speaks of his words as his own and yet also as the words of God.

"He who does not love me does not keep my words, and the word which you hear is not mine but the Father's who sent me". (John 14:24)

Again, whereas Jesus often proclaimed that nothing he said was on his own authority (as we have seen) but that every word he spoke was God's, yet because he is the Word of God he could quite rightly claim then as his own.

"Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears my word and believes him sent me, has eternal life; he does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life". (John 5:24)

"If you continue in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free". (John 8:31)

"If I know that you have but little power, and yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name". (Revelation 3:8)

Nevertheless not only does Jesus on every occasion speak of God's words as his own because he is the Word of God, but he himself, being himself the Word of God, is the final, ultimate and complete revelation of God to men.

"He is the image of the invisible God, the first-born of all creation for in him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or authorities - all things were created through him and for him. He is before all things and in him all things hold together. He is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning, the first-born from the dead, that in everything he might be pre-eminent. For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell". (Colossians 1:15-19)

So we see that far from being only a messenger of God, that is, one who receives an independent message from God, Jesus himself is the message of God and there is accordingly no independence between God and his Word. This is why Jesus alone is the unique Word of God. He is not a created messenger, he is the eternal Word of God. Other men are made from the dust - this man is from God. Other men return to the dust - this man returned to God.

At this stage we are constrained to say that we Christians do not really see where we are exaggerating in our religion as the Qur'an suggests in the passage under review (Surah 4:171). Because we believe that Jesus is the Son of God, we are supposedly exaggerating in our belief in him and yet, in that very same passage, the Qur'an calls Jesus the Messiah which implies fundamentally that he is the Son of God. But now we come across the title Word of God which, to all intents and purposes, is really more emphatic and suggestive of deity than the title Son of God.

The latter title at least implies some limitation and submission on the part of its bearer - a son is subject to his father - but the title Word of God implies no such limitation. By itself it clearly implies that its bearer is the express image of the invisible God and only the latter, title Son of God implies some submission on his part to the Father. The Qur'an denounces Christians for believing that Jesus is the Son of God and yet, in the very same breath, gives him the title Word of God which is as indicative of deity on the title Son of God. There is really no meaningful difference between the titles. Quite where we are exaggerating in our religion is not at all clear to us! So we see that the first two titles in Surah 4:171 that we have considered, i.e. Messiah and Word of God far from supporting the suggestion that Jesus is "only a messenger", in fact heavily reinforce the Christian belief that Jesus is the Word and Son of God incarnate. But let us press on now to the third title in Surah 4:171.

3. A SPIRIT FROM GOD (Ruhullah).

This third title is very little different from the second one for once again the title belongs to Jesus alone and God again is the source of the Spirit as he was the source of the Word. (It is sometimes said of Adam that God breathed something of his spirit into him but this must be carefully distinguished from the title Spirit of God which is given to Jesus alone.) Jesus is his Word and his Spirit. This title is also not explained in the Qur'an but frankly supports the Christian belief that Jesus was not a creature made out of dust but an eternal spirit who took on human form.

In this case, however, we do find some evidence in the Qur'an that helps us to identify the meaning of this title. Elsewhere in the Qur'an we read of the "Holy Spirit" (Ruhul-Quds - cf. Surahs 2:87, 2:253, 16:102) and it is presumed that the Holy Spirit is the angel Gabriel. Whoever it is, it is generally agreed that the Holy Spirit is greater than man and comes from heaven and is purely a spirit.

Jesus, however, is now called "a Spirit from him" (ruhun-minhu) from which he has received the title in Islamic traditions "Spirit of God" (Ruhullah). The expression in Surah 4:171, ruhun-minhu ("a spirit from him") is used in exactly the same form in Surah 58:22 where it is said that God strengthens true believers with "a spirit from him". Very significantly Yusuf Ali, commenting on this latter verse in his translation of the Qur'an states that here the "phrase used is stronger" than that for the Holy Spirit (Ruhul Quds). He implies that the Spirit from God is greater than the Holy Spirit and says that it is "the divine spirit, which we can no more define adequately than we can define in human language the nature and attributes of God" (note 5365).

This is a remarkable comment which is clearly a veiled implication that the ruhun-minhu is the very Spirit of the living God, uncreated and eternal in essence. Yusuf Ali says it is "the divine spirit" and that it is as incomprehensible as God himself. This language is unambiguous - the Spirit from God is clearly believed by him to be from the realm of deity and not from the created order. He is, according to this interpretation, practically synonymous with the Holy Spirit in the Christian Bible.

Now this is the very title that the Qur'an gives to Jesus in Surah 4:171. The exact same words are used - he is the ruhun-minhu, "a Spirit from God". If we merely apply Yusuf Ali's interpretation of the expression in Surah 58:22 to the very same expression given as a title to Jesus in Surah 4:171, we can only conclude that Jesus is the "divine spirit, which we can no more define adequately than we can define in human language the nature and attributes of God". He is, therefore, God in essence and nature. Because of the simultaneous denial in 4:171 that Jesus is the Son of God, Yusuf Ali is constrained to deny that the title ruhun-minhu when applied to Jesus implies deity, but he is hardly consistent in his exposition of the Qur'an when he teaches in another place that ruhun-minhu is indeed a divine spirit possessing the nature and attributes of God and is as incomprehensible as God as well.

For our part we believe that, as with the titles Messiah and Word of God, this title Spirit of God also strongly supports the Christian belief that Jesus is indeed the Son of God and that, not in any metaphorical sense, but in an eternal one which is based on the fact that he is very deity himself. The only way Yusuf Ali could avoid this admission when commenting on Surah 4:171 was to frankly contradict what he said in his commentary on Surah 58:22.

Nevertheless all three of these titles not only support but plainly imply that the one they refer to is the Son of God. In the Bible this is clearly the case and in the Qur'an the lack of an explanation for each title, together with the fact that the titles are much the same as those in the Bible, and further together with the underlying implication of each title by itself, leaves us with no other alternative but to conclude that Jesus is indeed the exalted figure that the Bible reveals him to be.

We have concluded our study of the most significant titles of Jesus in the Qur'an. Let us now turn to the Bible and let us briefly examine the two most significant titles of Jesus in this book - Son of Man and Son of God. We are selecting these titles, not simply because the Bible gives them to Jesus, but because these are the two titles which Jesus used of himself more often than any other in describing himself and his mission and ministry on earth.

TITLES OF JESUS IN THE BIBLE

The Bible gives Jesus many magnificent titles. He is given the titles Savior of the World, King of Kings, Redeemer, The Lord our Righteousness, the Sun of Righteousness, among many others which, when combined with one another, leave the unmistakable impression that he is indeed the Lord of Glory.

We will now consider, however, the two titles Jesus used of himself more than any other, the Son of Man and the Son of God. Indeed from these two titles, we can gain a sufficient impression of the whole person and work of Jesus Christ.

4.THE SON OF MAN

In the Bible the title Son of Man is undoubtedly one of the most important titles of Jesus for he used this title of himself more than any other during his ministry. It is in fact the first title we find him using of himself. He addressed his new disciple Nathaniel in these words:

"Truly, truly, I say to you, you will see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man". (John 1:51)

Not only is this the first title of Jesus in the Gospels, it is also the last title he used for himself during his earthly life. When he was arraigned before the Jewish High Priest on the last night he was alive, he said to him:

"Hereafter you will see the Son of man seated at the right hand of Power, and coming on the clouds of heaven". (Matthew 26:64)

Quite obviously this title was a very important and distinctive one to Jesus. But what does it mean? Is it simply a way of expressing the humanity of Jesus? That Jesus was a man is disputed by neither Christian nor Muslim in this world. But the title Son of Man cannot just be an expression of humanity. The definite form of the title, the Son of Man, refers to more than this and clearly implies that it is a unique man who bears this title and that in some exceptional way he is the figurehead of the human race.

Secondly one might be tempted to say that if Jesus so often called himself the Son of Man, was he not perhaps contrasting himself with the beliefs of some who followed him who held that he was the Son of God? Was not this his way of emphasizing his humanity over and against the assertions of others that he was the Son of God?

On the contrary, no fair exposition of the Bible can allow this interpretation at all. Firstly Jesus never used the title Son of Man in a context where it is contrasted with the title Son of God. Secondly it is only in the four Gospels in the Christian Bible that these two titles Son of Man and Son of God are found and as the writers quoted Jesus as using both titles for himself, we cannot imagine that they would have done this if the title s of Man was in any way contrary to the title Son of God.

We discover the meaning and import of the title Son of Man from a prophetic passage in the Book of Daniel where the prophet describes a vision he saw many centuries before Jesus was born. He was given A vision of heaven where God is and saw all the nations of earth gathered before him. Then in the night he saw this great even happen.

"Behold, with the clouds of heaven there came one like a Son of Man, and he came to the Ancient of Days and was presented before him. And to him was give dominion and glory and kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve him; his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom one that shall not be destroyed". (Daniel 7:13-14)

The Son of Man is an apocalyptic figure who is able to come right into the presence of God and it is to him that God gives authority over all the powers of the universe that every creature in heaven and on earth should serve him. Quite obviously the Son of Man is a glorious person, the epitome of human perfection and honour. And it is in this context that we find Jesus calling himself the Son of Man.

Elsewhere in the Bible we find the expression Son of Man used in a lesser sense (Psalm 8:4, Job 25:6, Ezekiel 11:15) where it does not refer to Jesus but is used in a general sense denoting humanity. Nevertheless whenever Jesus used it of himself, he used it as a title which belonged to him alone. In an exclusive sense he is the ultimate Son of Man, the one who was beheld by Daniel in all his glory in the vision he was allowed to receive, one who is unique and pre-eminent among men. The Son of Man, through something he head done and achieved as a man, was entitled to enter the presence of God and become the heir to the kingdom God has prepared for all those who truly love him.

What the Son of Man had done was to die for the sins of the world. By reconciling men to God, he was entitled to receive the kingdom which he had now made accessible to all who draw near to God through him. By conquering sin he had become the sovereign over those he set free from its power.

For this reason we invariably find Jesus using the title Son of Man in respect of his crucifixion and the glory he was to receive subsequent to it. He often told the Jews that it was the destiny of the Son of Man to be "lifted up", an expression which implied firstly that he was to be lifted up on a cross as an object of scorn before all men as he took their sins on himself and, secondly, that he was thereafter to be lifted up by God to glory in heaven to reign with him in wondrous majesty over all the sons of men. (See John 3:14-15, 8:28, 12:32-34.)

To his closer circle of disciples Jesus made this even clearer. On the last night before he was to be crucified, when he knew that Judas was about to betray him into the hands of the Jews, he said:

"The Son of Man goes as it is written of him". (Matthew 26:24)

As many of the prophets of old had foretold (e.g. Psalm 22, Psalm 69, Isaiah 53), the Son of Man was to die for the sins of men to make atonement for them. Only two days earlier Jesus had said to his disciples:

"You know that after two days the Passover is coming, and the Son of Man will be delivered up to be crucified". (Matthew 26:2)

On numerous other occasions Jesus spoke of himself as the Son of Man in the context of a lowly man on earth serving his fellow men finally laying down his life for them - much the same as the concept of the son of man in a general sense where the expression is used, not only to imply humanity, but to imply lowly humanity and human weakness. The Lord of all glory had voluntarily taken on the form of a servant and had in deep humility elected not only to serve God in form of a creature but even to serve his fellow-men:

"The Son of Man came, not to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many". (Matthew 20:28)

But far from the pending crucifixion being a final humiliation, Jesus spoke of it as a means of being glorified. More than once he spoke of his hour of destiny on the cross on the hour of glory for him. Shortly before his crucifixion he said to his disciples:

"The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. Truly truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it abides alone, but if it dies, it bears much fruit". (John 12:23-24)

Again, as he began his last discourse to his disciples after Judas departed, he said:

"Now is the Son of Man glorified, and in him God is glorified. If God is glorified in him, he will glorify him in himself, and will glorify him at once". (John 13:31-32)

Far from the crucifixion being a disgrace for Jesus or even a triumph for his enemies, it was merely a means to that ultimate glory which the Son of Man was to receive in heaven according to the vision which Daniel saw many centuries earlier. He went to the cross to redeem thousands of sinners so that he could ultimately lead them in triumph into the kingdom which God was to give him. Three days after he had died on the cross, God raised him for the dread and forty days later God lifted him up and raised him to glory in the heavens until he should return to receive his own and lead and rule over them in the kingdom of heaven for evermore.

Accordingly we often find Jesus speaking of himself as the Son of Man in the context of glory as well as in the context of crucifixion. We only have to refer to the two texts quoted of the beginning of this section to see how emphatically Jesus spoke of himself as the Son of Man in the context of heavenly honour and majesty.

In the first quote he said to Nathaniel "You will see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of Man" and to the High Priest he said "You will see the Son of Man seated at the right hand of Power and coming on the clouds of heaven". One day all men will see the Son of Man coming from heaven with the glory he head already obtained in the kingdom of God. Other quotes in the same context are these:

"When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne". (Matthew 25:31)

"Then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory". (Matthew 24:30)

In all these quotes we find a deeply significant trend. The Son of Man is the central figure in the kingdom of heaven. He is unique among men - not just one who has found his way into heaven, but the one who is the focal point of glory before the eyes of all men and all angels of the highest place that heaven affords, at the right hand of the throne of God.

After Jesus had ascended to heaven, we have a wonderful example of a vision granted to one of the early Christians, Stephen, who was about to die for his Master and so became the first Christian martyr. As Daniel had seen a vision of the ultimate honour of the Son of Man in heaven, so Stephen also received a similar vision as he was about to die, and said:

"Behold I see the heavens opened, and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God". (Acts 7:56)

So we see the pattern of the life of the Son of Man - from apparent disrepute at the hands of sinful men as he died for them on the cross to transparent honour and glory at the hand of God when he raised him from the dead to sit at his right hand, there to receive the kingdom he had rightly earned for all who are saved by faith in him.

So we see what a glorious personality the Son of Man is. Far from being a simple expression of humanity, the Son of Man is a title given only to the ultimate Redeemer of the earth and all who follow him. But if the Son of Man has gone to sit at the right hand of the throne of God, we are constrained to ask - does not this lead us to consider that the title "Son of Man", far from contrasting with the title "Son of God", rather corresponds to and is wedded to it? While the title implies humanity, do not the circumstances that Jesus spoke of which are found to accompany the ministry and work of the Son of Man imply that he is also in very truth the Son of God and that the Son of Man possesses divinity as well as humanity? Let up press on to see how the Jews themselves got this very impression - and then let us conclude with a very brief examination of this title Son of God which Jesus also gave himself.

5. THE SON OF GOD

At the time of Jesus the Jewish people failed generally to believe in him and to follow him but despite this they did not fail to grasp his claims about himself. When Jesus stood before the Council on the last night before he died, he said "From now on the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the power of God" (Luke 22:69), to which the Jews promptly replied "Are you the Son of God, then?" (v. 70) Although he had called himself the Son of Man,, what he had said about the Son of Man seemed to imply that he was also the Son of God. Jesus answered "You say that I am", meaning, "Indeed what you have said is true - I am the Son of God - and you have borne witness to the fact".

Likewise we find a similar answer from Jesus when the High Priest said to him, "I adjure you, by the living God, tell us whether you are the Messiah, the Son of God" (Matthew 26:63). Jesus answered "I am - and you have said so" (Mark 14:62, Matthew 26:64). To this answer the High Priest exclaimed "He has uttered blasphemy" (Matthew 26:65).

Jesus had been arrested by the Jews on the order of the High Priest because he had learnt that Jesus claimed to be the Son of God. At his trial no evidence could be brought which could be made to stick against Jesus, so the High Priest stood up and asked him the one question that was on his heart. "Are you, the Son of God?" The question was as unambiguous and as plain as it could be - and Jesus was put on oath before God to give him the true answer. Jesus replied in equally obvious language: "I am".

Not only did he confirm without reserve that he was the Son of God but he did so in the full knowledge of the consequences - that he would immediately be sentenced to death for blasphemy by the unbelieving Jews.

This was the climax of the growing hostility of the Jews to Jesus because of his repeated assertions that he was the Son of God. When they were angry with him for healing a man on the Sabbath, Jesus answered:

"My Father is working still, and I am working". (John 5:17)

As a result of this claim they sought all the more to kill him because he made himself the Son of God by calling God his Father and by unreservedly equating his work with the Father's work.

On another occasion Jesus again incurred the wrath of the Jews for saying "Before Abraham was, I am" (John 8:58). They did not except to his claim to pre-exist Abraham but were struck by the present tense, "I am", which implied that he had an eternal spirit. To them this was the equivalent of God's statement to Moses "I am the God of Abraham" (Exodus 3:6). So they took up stones to stone him for blasphemy.

A third time Jesus said to them "I and the Father are one" (John 10:30) - an emphatic statement that God was his Father and that he existed in absolute unity with him - and was therefore the Son of God. Again the Jews took up stones to stone him for blasphemy.

Now their own scriptures confirmed that the expression "Sons of the Most High" faith was used metaphorically of all true believers (Psalm 82:6). Why then were they accusing him of blasphemy because he claimed to be the Son of God in an absolute sense? (He at no time took exception to their conclusion - he reacted solely against their charge that he was falsely claiming to be the Son of God). His own words were:

"Do you say of him whom the Father consecrated and sent into the world "You are blaspheming" because I said "I am the Son of God?". (John 10:36)

For two reasons the Jews could not validly accuse him of blasphemy. Firstly, they could not genuinely object to terminology like "I am the Son of God" because their own scriptures used such terminology only in a metaphorical sense while Jesus was claiming to be the Son of God in an absolute sense, they still could not sincerely charge him with falsehood because the good works he did from the Father showed that his claims for himself were equally good and that this proved that he as indeed the Son of God.

All this had come to the ears of the High Priest and to avoid any further dispute, he put Jesus on oath to say whether he was indeed the Son of God to which Jesus replied "I am". The Jews then promptly went too the Roman governor, Pilate, seeking the execution of Jesus - for only one reason: Jesus claimed to be the Son of God. The Jews said to Pilate:

"We have a law, and by that law he ought to die, because he has made himself the Son of God". (John 19:7)

Once they thought they had succeeded in their designs, when Jesus hung on the cross, they exclaimed:

"He trusts in God, let God deliver him now, if he desires him, for he said ‘I am the Son of God’" (Matthew 27:43)

It is of great importance to observe the thrust of the accusation of the Jews against him - "he has made himself the Son of God"; "he said ‘I am the Son of God’". While many men since that day have accused the Christian church of making Jesus the Son of God, the Jews heard it from his own lips - and they accused him of making himself the Son of God. Jesus made no attempt to deny this charge. So we see that Jesus himself is the source of Christian belief that he is indeed the Son of God.

Just as the expression "son of man" is found elsewhere in the Bible in a general sense, so is the expression "sons of God", but just as Jesus took the title Son of Man for himself in an exclusive and glorious sense as a majestic title, so he claimed to be the Son of God in the same exclusive sense.

No one can honestly doubt that Jesus himself claimed to be the Son of God. Only one question remains, however, - was he indeed speaking the truth when he made this claim for himself or was he uttering blasphemy as the High Priest alleged?

In three definite ways God bore witness to the truth of Jesus' claim to be the Son of God. When he promised the Jews centuries earlier that the Messiah was to come from David's line, God said of him:

"I will be his father and he shall be my son". (2 Samuel 7:14)

God made it clear that the Messiah was to be his own Son and this prompted Jesus to say to the Jews at the end of his ministry among them:

"What do you think of the Messiah ? Whose son is he?" (Matthew 22:42)

When the Jews replied that he was to be the Son of David, Jesus pointed to a Psalm where David called him his Lord. How then could he be his son, Jesus asked? The Messiah was to be the offspring of David but had not God said that he would be his own Son? Secondly, God spoke from heaven of Jesus at his baptism, and later again, at his transfiguration and said:

"This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased". (Matthew 3:17)

Thirdly, Jesus was raised from the dead three days after his crucifixion according to his own predictions to this effect (Matthew 16:21, etc.). In this way God bore witness to the fact that everything Jesus said about himself was true - including his oft-repeated claim to be the Son of God. His resurrection proved beyond shadow of doubt that he was indeed the Son of God (Romans 1:4) and that God was truly his Father.

It was the express united will of both the Father and the Son that Jesus should die as a man on a cross to redeem men to God. Perhaps the Father was never less obviously revealed in the Son than during those hours when Jesus hung, forsaken of his Father, on the cross as he took the sins of men on himself. But never was the absolute and awesome love of the Father and the Son more revealed to hell-deserving sinners than during those moments when Jesus endured what is rightfully due to all other men for their sins.

You must answer this question as well - what do you think of the Messiah? Whose Son is he? Will you agree with God and testify that Jesus, the Messiah, is indeed his Son? Will you not commit yourself to Jesus as your Lord and Saviour and receive the salvation he obtained for you by dying on the cross for your sins? Will you not believe in him fully and recognise that eternal life is found in him alone? Will you not receive forgiveness of sins in his name?

JESUS CHRIST SON OF GOD AND SON OF MAN

Ps 34.
